In a collaboration aimed at evaluating energy savings and improving feed efficiency with organic diets, Smir AS has successfully delivered two Smirfeeder waterborne feeding systems to Mowi Scotland.
The first installation took place at Mowi’s Loch Duich site, located on the western coast of Scotland. This system includes three Smirfeeder stations and three Multifeeder selectors, facilitating waterborne feeding to 12 pens stocked with organic salmon. The system was commissioned earlier this year during an ongoing production cycle. Loch Duich has recently begun its first complete cycle using the Smirfeeder system, and initial results are promising.
The second Smirfeeder system was recently comissioned at Mowi’s Invasion Bay site. This system includes four Smirfeeder stations and four Multifeeder selectors and is set to become operational in December, coinciding with the start of the new production cycle.
Both sites feature onshore installations, with feed being transferred to the pens over distances exceeding 400 meters.
Loch Duich and Invasion Bay are the first sites in the UK to implement the Smirfeeder waterborne feeding system. The systems are expected to help Mowi Scotland achieve more sustainable and energy-efficient feeding practices for their organic salmon production.
