Get to know Martin Eikrem

– our newly appointed Project Manager

Smir Group recently strengthened its Project Management Team with the employment of Martin Eikrem. Martin is employed as a Project Manager and will have a central role in ensuring safe and predictable frameworks for our customers in project execution.

How would you describe your first month at Smir Group?

It has been very rewarding! It’s been a lot of new things to get used to, but it’s really fun when you work with innovation and new exciting projects. I have settled into all the projects well, and have gotten to know many talented people, both internally in the company, but also externally with our customers and partners.

What made you want to join the company?

It was probably the opportunity to be involved in developing and implementing exciting projects in a forward-thinking environment with high competence and creativity. I also think it was tempting to work with people who are so passionate about the sector, and who work actively every day to develop tomorrow`s aquaculture industry in the form of new, sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

What have you done earlier in your career?

I started my career in Havila Shipping where I worked as a sailor, but after some poor times in the offshore segment, I chose to retrain. I then took a bachelor’s degree in construction at NTNU. After graduating, I started at Moldskred, which was later aqcuired by Norconsult AS. There I had the role as academic administrator within construction engineering. In recent years, I have mainly worked with large land-based fish farms, both in execution, design and early phase.

In what way can you help make a difference for our customers?

I can contribute with structure to project implementation and ensure a safe and predictable framework for the customer.

What does aquaculture mean to you, and what engages you?

For me, aquaculture essentially means an enormous resource of healthy and good food for the population, and one of the points that engages me the most is the importance of managing the ocean’s resources in the right way. We must put the fish and its environment in the driver’s seat of everything we do, and develop new, innovative solutions based on this premise.

What future thoughts do you have on behalf of Smir Group and the aquaculture industry?

I strongly believe that Smir Group will continue to be a key contributor to the green shift, and in close cooperation with key players in the aquaculture industry contribute to the production of healthy and good food for many generations to come.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like both hunting, fishing and hobby carpentry. We have just set up a cabin on Bjorli, so a lot of time is spent there among many good fishing lakes, but autumn deer hunting is probably at the top of the list.
